18th/early 19th Century Blackamore of a Boy holding a loft a circular dish
A rare 18th/early 19th Century solid wood Blackamore of a young Boy partly kneeling on a tasselled cushion with chasing and well carved decoration, the Boy, wearing a matching loin type cloth and tasselled head cloth/scarf flowing down his back and with a detailed neck band decoration, holds above his head a circular dish with well carved top surrounded by a carved decorative edge, the whole in great order and condition with original colouring and good patina throughout – a stunning, eyecatching and rare example of this type of sought after and archaic, highly collectable “furniture”.
Note. The circular dish held aloft has recently had added (by us) a circular (lift off) glass top (with polished edge) for protection and to create an attractive, useful and unusual occassional table that would ultimately form an eyecatching and conversational object in either a traditional and/or contempoary home or environment of notable design and style.
